Summary

Chirps is an offline tool. It makes no network connections. It collects no personal data. It requires no account. Your audio stays on your device.

Microphone Access

Chirps requests microphone access at first launch. This permission is required to receive audio from your device’s built-in microphone or any connected external microphone. Without it, the app cannot display a spectrogram or make recordings.

What Chirps does with microphone access:

  • Processes incoming audio in real time to generate the spectrogram and waveform display
  • Writes audio to a WAV file on your device when you explicitly start a recording
  • Passes audio to the output (headphones/speaker) in passthrough and heterodyne monitoring modes
  • Keeps an active stream or recording running in the background only when you have started the stream and allowed background streaming

What Chirps does not do:

  • Chirps does not record audio silently or without your initiation
  • Chirps does not transmit audio to any external server
  • Chirps does not start background audio capture on its own
  • Chirps does not access the microphone for any purpose other than audio analysis and recording

If background streaming continues, Chirps sends a local reminder notification after approximately one minute so you know the microphone stream is still active.

You can review and revoke microphone permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Chirps.

Audio Recordings

WAV files created by Chirps are written to the app’s local storage on your device. If iCloud Drive is enabled on your device, iOS will sync these files to your iCloud Drive folder automatically — this sync is performed by the operating system, not by Chirps. No audio files are uploaded to any third-party server.

You have full control over all recording files. They can be accessed, moved, and deleted from the Files app.

No Personal Data

Chirps does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. This includes:

  • Name, email address, or contact information
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV, or similar)
  • Usage patterns or session data

No Analytics

Chirps contains no analytics SDKs, crash reporting libraries, or usage tracking of any kind. No third-party code has network access within the app.

No Advertising

Chirps contains no advertising and is not connected to any advertising network.

No Internet

Chirps makes no network connections during normal operation. The app does not check for updates, or communicate with any external service.

No Account

Chirps requires no sign-up, login, or user account.

This Website

The promotional website you are currently visitng uses Google Analytics for understanding basic web traffic data. No user-identifiable data is collected by the owner of the site.

This is a statically rendered website. No user sign-up or subscription to emails is required to access the content presented here.

Cookies

This website does not store analytical cookies for the purpose of understanding user behaviour. Third party cookies may be present via the web-traffic analysis sites such as the one mentioned above.
